Tammy's Birthday Tea Party

My friend Rachel Chalk and her five daughters gave me a special treat for my birthday. A tea party!!! I gave Rachel's daughter Lilly a dress-up tea party in the Rose Cottage when she was a little girl at the tearoom. Now they are sharing their home with me for my birthday.

So many goodies, chocolate covered strawberries, chicken salad croissants, apple nut muffins, deli wraps...it was all delicious!

The table was set so pretty and you know pink is my favorite color.

What is on Your List?

In her book Feeling At Home, Alexandra Stoddard talks about how powerful it can be when you make a list of the ten symbols that define who you are and when you stay true to those things. I had to have eleven symbols because I couldn't delete one.

  • Love - daily kisses, touch and chaos from my family

  • Water - the color of turquoise, pools glimmering in the sunlight, lakes, oceans

  • Tea - mornings and afternoons

  • Spirituality - Journaling and Joy

  • Nature - gardens, flowers, trees - taking long walks

  • Romance - candlelight, driving in a convertible, chocolate, mystery

  • Music that stirs me - I play piano and clarinet and sing but I love every genre

  • Books - my ultimate weakness and inspiration, reading

  • Family photos - memories, blogging

  • Succulent and Delicious food - trying new recipes - dining alfresco

  • Creativity - everyday I need to create something on some level, painting, writing, blogging!

What is on your list?

This above all. To thine own self be true!

OU Texas Game

This is my best friend Cathy who was born in Texas doing hook em horns behind my head in 1992. Texas won that year...by the way...uuugggh!

It was a perfect fall day and we sat on the 35 yard line. This was when I was still living in Texas.

Almost every year we call each other the week of the big game. No matter the outcome we don't let the Red River Rivalry come between our friendship. Winning isn't everything but it sure feels sweet! The OU/Texas game is this Saturday. BOOMER SOONER!

Rescue Remedy

For my birthday my guys got me a gift certificate to my favorite spa.

So I treated myself to a Rescue Remedy this morning and let me just say aaahhhh!

Rescue Remedy lets you enjoy a hydrotherapy treatment customized with your favorite aroma and a focused massage to unwind from what ails you. The combination of the hydrotherapy and massage puts you in the most blissful of states. Then add a scalp, head, neck shoulder and foot massage during the hydrotherapy and extend the massage. After this treatment you won't care if aliens invade the planet.

All of us ladies need to take care of ourselves and what better treat than a massage. It truly is one of my favorite things. I hope you find the time to do some caretaking of what ails you.

My Mama's Red Velvet Cake Recipe

My mom's original recipe with red food coloring stains from the many years of baking this cake for our family and friends.

She has been making this Red Velvet cake for me all my life and it is my favorite!
This is my third birthday 1966. This cake has a ballerina on it.
She also made the dress that I was wearing.
My mom is the one of the most creative souls that I know...she sings, plays the piano, sews, paints, cooks out of this world, bakes, and she does everything with love.

This year I requested her cake for my 48th birthday.
My mom and me - 2011 (45 years from the last picture).

Enjoy and make some traditions with your own family that they will treasure.

My mama is a National Treasure to me.

This is why the Red Velvet cake was served at the tearoom and is in the cookbook!
