Traveling Visitor's Comments

I was in Oklahoma City visiting my sister during Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and we had lunch at you delightful place on Saturday. I cannot express the joy and delight we had that day. The decor was beautiful and the food was absolutely to die for.

It made our day so enjoyable. We were able to see a tea party for a little girl as they came through the dining area and it was perfect.

I have loved tea parties ever since I was a little girl and I have collected tea sets of every size and shape over the last 20 years, so to say I was so delighted to find your beautiful shop is an understatement.

I am from a very old southern antebellum community in Mississippi and we have nothing here to compare.

I research areas I travel to to find tea parlors to visit and yours has been the most memorable of all.

Thank you for making our girls weekend so special for my sisters and I. I hope to be able to enjoy your shop again on my next visit. Always At Your Service,

Allison's Party

Hi Tammy,
Please pass along thank you’s to your entire team for the beautiful birthday party you all set up for Allison. She loved it, and all of her guests left with wonderful smiles on their faces. That was precious! I received many comments from people who were there, but my favorite was from my dad. He said, “now THAT was a very special party to remember.” He doesn’t comment on things like that often, and we agree with his assessment. Thank you again for making Allison’s 7th birthday very special!
Sincerely,
Karen

Thank you Karen for your kind comments about our Rose Cottage Tea Parties. We are so happy Allison's seventh birthday was beyond your expecations.

Saying Goodbye One Day At A Time

Christmas Party at Walnut Creek Chapel

Walnut Creek Chapel
PC Child Nutrition Event
December 2, 2010

Its early morning on December 3rd. I was at the tearoom until 8:30pm last night. We had a Christmas party for the PC Child Nutrition Team at Walnut Creek. I literally stood at the register all day trying to help Miss Jamie with the line. So many of you have been so kind to offer hugs and support during this time of our transition. It always does my heart good when the tearoom is full and overflowing. It must have something to do with being a Preacher's Kid...you know my dad use to say the same thing about a full sanctuary. I can remember after church on the way home he would always go through in his mind the folks he didn't see there and would comment about missing them. I have found myself doing the same thing as I am saying goodbye to each one of my wonderful customers.

I got two more emails yesterday that I wanted to share that made my day.

"I am really sorry to see that you are closing, my two highschool friends & I meet there once in a while to have lunch. In fact we were in there jst today. We had the Chicken, Artichoke Casserole and it was super delicious. Can I get the recipe? If you ever decide to open another Tea Room, I'll be back. " - Loyce Ann Peard

"I plan on bringing my granddaughters one more time before you close. We have enjoyed your tea room for our tea parties for 10 years. The girls always dress up and wear my vintage hats. It has been a wonderful family tradition. I have gone to other tea rooms but none can compare to yours "- Pam Oliver

Saying Goodbye For Now

These postcards went out last week to over 4000 of our customers.

Today I got an email from a lady living in Kansas.

"So very sorry to hear the tea room is closing--I live in Kansas City and we have nothing like A Spot For Tea here so it has been a pleasure to visit each time I am in Oklahoma City to see my aunt. We are both hoping you will reconsider and reopen at a later date. We will miss our wonderful times there--Good luck in your future plans--Terry Clapper & Alice McCann

Yesterday, I got many phone calls and one in particular from for Honorable Mayor Tardibono who spoke so many kind and encouraging words to me about how much A Spot For Tea has blessed the city and brought alot of joy to other people's lives.

From now until the end of December I am going to be blogging each day about the journey and how grateful I am for all the years since 1996 and the many wonderful friends I have made because of our shared love of tea. Thank you for making these years successful and for all your kind words of appreciation for A Spot For Tea.

Thanksgiving 2010

This year we celebrated Thanksgiving at my cousin Valerie's house.
I made Praline Pumpkin Pie.

Ingredients:

1 Unbaked deep dish pie shell
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
4 eggs
15 oz. can pure pumpkin
12 oz can evaporated milk
1/2 cup milk

Mix sugar, salt & spice in small bowl. Beat eggs in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in milk.

Pour into pie shell.

Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees; bake 40-50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours.

Praline Sauce
1/2 cup diced pecans
3 tbsp butter
3/4 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp milk
Microwave until creamy, keep stirring in between checking consistency.

Pour Praline Sauce over cooled pumpkin pie and add pecans to decorate. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

It was delicious!

There was about 40+ of my dad's family that gathered together to celebrate.

We basically put out all the food buffet style and eat once around lunch and then graze all day in between football games.

Its always fun for the boys to be around their cousins.

Bryce, Brock and Jake.

My dad has two sisters still living Aunt Jimmielou & Aunt Jeanelle. My dad was the baby of 11 kids. We don't know the meaning of small get togethers.

I'm 47 years old and have enjoyed all the wonderful memories of our family get togethers over the years. I hope my boys are making good memories also.

Cousins all smiles and full tummies.

Take time to be thankful for your loved ones.

My cousin Valerie making hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies for the kids.

A big fire and lots of football and catching up with one another.

It was very chilly after a cold front moved through...perfect fall weather.

Out in the country you can see the windmill in the skyline at the end of the day.
Hope your holidays were filled with family and good times and good food.

Happy Thanksgiving

I'm thankful for friends and family and today we had some special visitors at the tearoom.
Michelle & Joel Reasoner are visiting from Yakima, Washington.
Michelle worked for A Spot For Tea while she was here going to college.
Congratulations Michelle & Joel...they're expecting their first baby in July.
They will be missionaries to Russia soon...it was so good to see them both and share their good news.

My good friend Susan Craton is here visiting her mom Jimmie Lee from Arkansas.
I have known Susan since I was in 8th grade living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Susan has been a wonderful friend to me all these years....she's like the big sister I never had.
We will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy the holiday with their loved ones.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday Brunch with my best friend on Sunday afternoon - one of my favorite things. I had the Crab Cakes Egg Benedict and she had a ham/cheese omlette. Delicious...with jazz music playing just loud enough that you can chat.

My best friend Cathy drove up from Ft. Worth on Sunday.
We had girl time...catched up on all things important and she helped me put everything into perspective and made things right with the world once again.

God guides us, despite our uncertainties and our vagueness, even through our failings and mistakes...He leads us step by step, from event to event. Only afterwards, as we look back over the way we have come and reconsider certain important moments in our lives in the light of all that has followed them...do we experience the feeling of having been led without knowing it, the feeling that God has mysteriously guided us. - Paul Tournier

How blessed we are when God helps guide us through the wisdom of best friends.

Brown Family in Rose Cottage

Meet the Brown Family.
Three party families happen when you have 3 daugthers who have tea parties in the Rose Cottage.
We had Jordan's birthday party December 2002. Jordan is on the left.
We had Taylor's birthday party a year later in October 2003. Taylor is on the right.
Today was Lexi Brown's party in the Rose Cottage.
She is turning 6 years old.

Jordan, Lexi and Taylor Brown 2010.

Lexi and her sisters, mom and grandmother.
Thank you Brown family for letting A Spot For Tea make memories with your daughters.
It was a wonderful treat to host all three parties.
They grow up way too fast.
